A few months back, Activision announced the formation of Beachhead Studios to create, “a new digital platform and services for the Call of Duty franchise.” That new digital platform was officially announced today as Call of Duty Elite.
Launching day-in-day with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Elite will allow you to track stats, form officially supported groups and clans, and compete for prizes across multiple Call of Duty games.
The Call of Duty Elite mantra is connect, compete, and improve. Through the service, you’ll be able to join friends to play together with others who share similar interests or playstyles. You’ll also be able to create custom leaderboards through different stats, comparing your progress against those all over the world. Through its stat tracking feature, you can improve your aim and learn from other players as you participate in leagues and matches for real prizes.
Call of Duty Elite will be available for free for those who purchase a Call of Duty game, but some features will only be accessible for those who pay an additional subscription fee for the service. Activision didn’t announce exactly what the subscription includes, but did note that those who subscribe to Elite would not have to pay for new map packs. No pricing details were announced, through current speculation prices it at about the same as a Netflix membership.
Elite will be accessible across multiple devices, including iOS and Android. You can sign up for the beta starting this summer here. You can see a video detailing some of the features of Call of Duty Elite below. When launched, Call of Duty Elite will be integrated into Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as well as other titles in the future.
