Kotaku first reported the leak, saying that Modern Warfare 3, the rumored title to be released this year, is being worked on three different studios: Raven Software, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games.
According to the leak, the game begins immediately following the conclusion of Modern Warfare 2 with Russians invading Manhattan. If you want to know more about the storyline including plot points, you can read the article here.
As with other Call of Duty titles, you’ll play as different characters as you visit locales including New York City, Paris, London, Sierra Leone, and Hamburg, Germany. The single-player campaign will contain 15 missions in all, but there has been no word on how long the campaign will take to complete.
However, the main focus of the Call of Duty franchise is multi-player, and Modern Warfare 3 does not slack in that area. There are a reported 20 different multi-player maps such as Alps, Coast, Hardhat, Underground, and Village. Some of these may be cut from the initial release and used later for DLC map packs. Modern Warfare 3 will also see the return of SpecOps which will feature two different modes, Mission and Survival. Mission will play through the normal SpecOps missions, while Survival will test players in Horde style gameplay as they fight to survive against oncoming waves of enemies.
Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist at Infinity Ward, tweeted shortly after the Kotaku report saying, “A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I'd wait for the real reveal.” He also released the first teaser trailer for Modern Warfare 3, which you can see below.
We’ll learn more as E3 quickly approaches. According to the image seen here from IGN, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be set to release on November 8, 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
